Shofukuji Tempel is named an area in Gokusho in Hakata. In this area are many tempels.
So just look at the map below:

The read inlines area belongs to the shofukuji tempel.
The Tempel was built in 1195 under the leading of Eisai (Rinzai Monk). This project was supported by the first shôgun of japan Minamoto no Yoritomo.
One of the greatest things is, that this tempel is the oldest zen tempel in whole Japan!
On a plate written by the tennô Go Toba stands: "This is the oldest zen tempel in Japan"
So it is an easy explanation ^^
But the temepelrules are very strict! Although everyone wants to have a look inside of the beautifull bulding, it is prohibited...
That's because of the training task of this place. Many monks train here. So it is a very silent place.
I wanted sooo much to have a look inside...
So maybe I should become a Monk :D
Even dogs and other animals aren't alowed even to go in the outer side (although wild animals are around). So maybe I shold be happy that I could see a bit more than the animals :)
This here is the "real" Shofukuji Tempel" :

It is very impressiv. Especially the little pond whith the sorrounding plant and buildings looked very beautiful to me.
Some pictures will follow later!
Also a report of the light-walk of the 23.10.2010 will come soon. some geishas went throght the Tempel and someone played an instument at that day!
