300 YEARS OLD SUMMERFESTIVAL

With the Oohama-Nagare-Kanjou festival ends the summer. For three day, in the streets of Oohama area, people come together, they eat, pray and spend time together. It starts on the 24th August and ends on Sunday with a monk chanting (sutra chanting). In addition you can watch the historical warrior pictures from the artist Sekkei Ebisaki as well as some other nice suprises.

THE HISTORY

tells, in 1756, there was a really strong typhoon in this area. A japanese ship sank in the hakata bay and many houses have broken down, killing many people. One year later, there was a epidemic which also left many people dead. This festival is a memorial service for the fatalities and has evolved over the years to a summer festival.

This is a about 100 years old typical japanese house. It is very small from outside but really long to the rear outside. In the front part of the house there is an

exhibition and a shelter from the 2nd world ware as well as a little garden in the middle of the house.

This story is a famous children's story. The name of the samurei on the left is Kintoki Sakata, children call him Kintaro.

DSC_0311.JPG Catch the fish! This is a typical japanese play. I tried it. I got one of this orange, with thin paper covered landing net and had to try to catch a fish to put it into a metal cup. My first attempt failed. The paper tore very fast. With the second attempt I could catch some little fishes. If I had wanted I would have take them home... But I have no aquarium, so we have returned them in the water.
